Lesson Overview:

God is viewed in many ways. Some view him as a loving father, some as a stern task master, some view God as a gentle friend, some as a reprimanding school principal. How you view God shapes what you believe he meant when he promised salvation. It shapes what you feel you must do to obtain salvation. If God truly revealed himself in Christ then shouldn’t we be able to see, in him, who God really is? This lesson asks students to look at how they see God and re-examine it in light of who Christ is. The lesson will illuminate a God who is compassionate enough to save, loving enough to sacrifice, and true to his word when he promised to return for his followers.

Lesson Overview:

Some people think that God is far away and distant. Some people feel like God couldn’t possibly understand what it is like in their situation. Some people feel like God set this whole world spinning and then just walked away from it. But those things actually couldn’t be any farther from the truth. God became a human being and stepped into our world. Jesus Christ left heaven and was born into a world full of sin, sorrow, and suffering. He understands us because he became like us. This lesson is designed to show students that Jesus can understand the pain and struggles of life because he lived the life of a human being. He became one of us.

Lesson Overview:

Jesus death is often taken for granted. We wear a cross around our neck as jewelry, would we wear an electric chair? Jesus died a horrible, painful, gruesome death. Why? What made him do it? Wasn’t there an easier way, a less painful way? Jesus promised he would never leave us or forsake us. He was willing to do whatever it took to secure the salvation of our souls. In fact he had been planning it since the beginning of time. This lesson is designed to see that before man was created God planned to send Jesus to die for us. He knew our sin before we were created. And before we were born he had already mapped out a way to take that sin away from us.

Lesson Overview:

If you stand on a street corner in a crowed city on any given day you will see people going in every conceivable direction all at the same time. There are crowds shuffling down sidewalks, cars whizzing northbound, southbound, turning left, and right. People are crossing at crosswalks, going down into the subway, up into elevators of the buildings. They are all heading in different directions, oblivious to the world around them. In our lives we do much the same thing. We chase after material things, school, jobs, friends, romance, fun, and much more. All the while we are totally oblivious to what God is doing. God stepped down into the middle of all of this chaos and put up a sign (in the person of Jesus Christ) that said “ONE WAY”. There is ONE WAY to heaven. And the irony of it is that sacrificing his son was the ONE (and only) WAY to make it happen. This lesson is about getting the students to stop running after things for a few moments today. To get them to slow down just long enough for you to point at the sign and guide them toward the ONE WAY.

Lesson Overview:

We are sheep and the Lord is our Shepherd. The sheep recognize the shepherd’s voice and follow him. This lesson is about recognizing the voice of Jesus in the world and following after him. What makes him a good Shepherd? What makes his voice recognizable? What will following him be like? These are the questions that this lesson should raise.

Lesson Overview:

There are a lot of labels out there. Jock, nerd, loser, and cool are just a few. How does the world define you? Does it call you worthless, failure, or hopeless? Are you living according to the definition the world gives you or do you allow yourself to be defined by God? God defines us as loved, forgiven, and blessed. This lesson is about helping students to redefine themselves according to how God sees them.
